Translation Report On Health Impact Assessment Documents

Medical translation,as a branch of translation for scientific purpose,is a common type of translation practiced by English translators.Three documents introduced from America to Shanxi Medical University on Health Impact Assessment are chosen as the translation materials.They are HIA-Guide-for-Practice(Bhatia-2011),HIA Guidelines(Australian Health Council),Review-HIA.In the process of translation,human translation and machine translation were employed(mainly through Memo Q).Since HIA is an emerging field in medical science,related research in China has not formed an independent system,seriously lacking reference materials.The functional equivalence theory emphasizes the center of readers,what readers feel is the most important measure of standard translations.On the basis of the author’s personal translation practice of three medical documents,the conclusion has been drawn that there are a large number of repeated words and structures in medical documents,which can be solved by computer-aided translation technology(CAT)through a considerable improvement of accuracy and efficiency.This report consists of five chapters.The first chapter briefly describes the background and significance of translation task;Chapter two introduces the translation process,analyzes the source text and introduces HIA and CAT softwares.Chapter three discusses about the theoretical basis of the report.Chapter four uses examples to describe the difficulties and problems encountered during translation of the task under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory,and also gives translation techniques used during the translation.Chapter five is the conclusion of this translation report,where the author summarizes the report,describes the findings and analysis of the translation.
