Our people have payed close attention to moral philosophy since ancient time.The source text,Basic Moral Philosophy,is a book of philosophy theory written by Robert L.Holmes,the Professor Emeritus of Philosophy,University of Rochester and published in 2006.The task is the first two chapters of the book.The initiator of the task is a certain press in Jinan.According to the requirements of the press,the target readers are the students and researchers of related specialties in colleges or institutes.Therefore,the translation is aimed at providing reference for related students and researches in colleges or institutes studying moral philosophy.The source text is intended to tell us about the basic ideas of moral philosophy with strict logic and reasonable analysis,which belongs to informative text.The linguistic feature of source text is formal.In the source text,there are a lot of proper nouns,concepts and definitions about moral philosophy.The report is written in accordance with three aspects of linguistic adaptation of Verschueren including dynamic adaptation of context,dynamic adaptation of linguistic structure and salience in dynamic adaptation.Compared with other texts,there are some differences in the source text because it is more formal and professional.The works of western moral philosophy at home are limited,thus,we can study moral philosophy with the help of foreign documents.The translation can be used to provide reference for students and researchers in colleges or institutes in the aspect of moral philosophy.
