A Report On Translating Ningbo Circular Economy Development Plan (Excerpts)

Since Reform and Opening Up,China has built close cooperative relationships with other countries around the world in the important fields of economy and culture etc.Language serves as a bridge and foundation for the communication and cooperation between China and other countries.Therefore,translation of publicity materials is of extreme importance.Ningbo Circular Economy Development Plan is composed by the Ningbo Economic Development and Planning Institute.The plan includes four major parts: theories for circular economy development,realistic foundation of circular economy development,targets of circular economy development and key fields and tasks of circular economy development.It is considered as a summary for preliminary study on the construction of a resource-conserving society in Ningbo.In addition,circular economy development is a common issue for global society.The translation report is written based on Ningbo Circular Economy Development Plan.The translation is about 12,000 Chinese characters and it consists of numerous economic terms,long sentences and sentences without subjects.By summarizing the translation process and analyzing specific translation cases,the report mainly explores: how to achieve translation targets,such as precision,readability and information transferring by employing Skopos Theory and translation methods.The targets of the translation task are revealed by analyzing the text type and language characteristics of the target text based on Skopos Theory.The report gives full consideration to the three rules of Skopos Theory: purpose,coherence and fidelity.In the process of translation,the report focuses on precision and communicative purpose of translation.Words with Chinese characteristics,terms,sentences without subjects and long sentences are translated through translation methods: conversion,amplification and inversion in the process of translation.Conversion refers to conversion on part of speech,sentence element,sentence pattern and voice.Amplification refers to proper information supplement.Inversion refers to inversion on word order.By the application of those translation methods,translation is accurate and readable.
