A Project Report On The English Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Promotion Of Circular Economy

The project report is written to analyze the features of Chinese legislative texts based on the English translation of Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Promotion of Circular Economy and Law of the People 's Republic of China on Promotion of Circular Economy.In this report, it summarizes major issues and difficulties including expressions with Chinese characteristics,fuzzy expressions,sentences with "de (?)” structure and long and difficult sentences in the translation process and offers corresponding solutions.Legislative texts are featured by professional and accurate expressions and the frequent use of long and difficult sentences. Based on the translation practice, the report puts forward feasible methods with adherence to the principles of eco-translatology. For expressions with Chinese characteristics,referring to parallel texts and focusing on the headword are necessary to guarantee the equivalence between the source text and the target text; for the translation of fuzzy expressions,methods including equivalent translation,addition and omission can be adopted flexibly; sentences with "de (?)” structure can be translated into adverbial clause of condition with "if" "where" and "when" as the introducer word or into non-finite verbs according to the specific situation; for these long and difficult sentences, translators can adopt methods of splitting and restructuring as well as rendering the Chinese verbs into English nouns.These Regulations,in light of the specific situation of Jiangsu Province, have highlighted the development of circular economy in Jiangsu. Consequently, the translation project is of great significance to foreign exchanges and economic development of this province. The report is written to shed some light on the translation of legal texts by summarizing translation experience with specific examples.
