On The Differences Between Eastern And Western Tragedies From Destiny Concept

Destiny concept is a philosophy proposition speculating the survival and development of early human,which,"based on cultural backgrounds such as philosophy,religion,history and art,explores and generalizes destiny and gradually forms the notion of human or personal destiny with a sense of life".Tragedy,"in a negative way to affirm the value of things",becomes a different kind of aesthetic form characterized by mufti-dimension,national features and nature of the times.Making a general survey of Eastern and Western worlds,ancient Greek tragedy and Chinese classical tragedy present many differences.Considering it,the discrepancy of destiny concept between the East and the West is one of the factors causing these differences.On this basis,this article discusses the destiny concept in ancient Greek period Chinese classical period.The destiny concept in ancient Greece is embodied in the myth as a theory of destiny,makes a voice of doubt in the epic and tends to be words of conversion among philosophers.Chinese classical destiny concept is shown in three aspects.First,the myth shows its idealistic demands from the speculation of man and nature.Second,Confucianism-"destiny","knowing destiny"-emphasizes practicing the concept of "self-cultivation","moral composition and reality".Third,Taoist destiny concept resorts to grasping the wisdom of destiny-" resolving " and "adaption ".It is the great differences on destiny concept between the two periods that impact the creation of tragedies in two periods,consequently leading to the differences between tragedies in two periods.Ancient Greek tragedy attributes all sufferings to the arrangement of destiny and recognizes that "destiny rules everything",but ancient Greeks believed that individual values could be highlighted only throughthe struggle between individual will and destiny when they faced with the rules of destiny.Chinese classical tragedy,on the one hand,emphasizes the ethical value of the existence of individuals in realistic world and the tragic ideal of the fulfillment of individual desires.On the other hand,it emphasizes the adaption of destiny in individual existence and the resolving of unfavorable situation of destiny itself.
