A Practice Report On The Chinese-English Translation Of Code For Design Of Metro (Chapters 13-14)

With further development of globalization and knowledge economy,countries and companies are in fierce competitions on the establishment of standards.Thus,a large number of standard documents need to be translated.This report discusses the translation practice of chapter 13 and chapter 14 of the Code for Design of Metro(GB 50157-2013).The contents of the two chapters are mainly about the design code related to ventilation,air-conditioning and heating,and water supply and drainage of metro.The text belongs to the informative text whose primary aim is to express facts and information,so the language is objective,targeted and logical with professional words and sentences.This report makes a detailed analysis of and a comprehensive summary of the translation practice from Chinese to English.It consists of five chapters: task description,process description,preparations for translation,case analyses and summary.The first chapter introduces source,background,features and requirements of the task.The second chapter elaborates the process description,including preparations,translation and revision.The third chapter gives a description of preparations for translation,which consists of reading and analyzing the source text and reading and analyzing parallel texts.The fourth chapter is case analyses,which is the core of the whole report.Firstly,the author tries to put forward the 3C(correctness,consistency and conciseness)principles for the standard document translation from Chinese into English,and then analyzes the translation methods respectively from words translation and sentence translation,including the translation of the volitive auxiliary,the application of passive voice,and the adjustment of word order.In the last chapter,the author makes a summary of the experience and enlightenment in the translation and hopes to provide reference for the translation of this field.
