| With the continuous development of economic globalization and world multi-polarization,China’s comprehensive national strength has been increasingly promoted.More and more Chinese companies have taken part in international construction projects. As an important communicative document, the civil engineering tender plays a crucial role in bidding procedure of international projects. Therefore,it is of great importance to fully understand the stylistic features of these bidding documents and accurately translate them. This translation practice report is based on part of translation of Contract T206 Subway Construction Project of Woodlands Section in Singapore. It consists of four parts: the first chapter is task description, which introduces the background of the task, the features of the original text and the significance of the study;the second chapter is process description, including all kinds of work before,in and after the translation;the third part is case study, which is the core section of this report. The author applies Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory to illustrate the adopted translation methods of sentence voice conversion, word order adjustment, division, omission, addition and word class conversion with examples from lexical and syntactic levels. The last part is the conclusion about the experience got from this practice.Through this report, the author illustrates and summarizes the adopted translation methods during the practice, aiming to explore the applicability of Functional Equivalence Theory to the translation of bidding documents of civil engineering projects, which may hopefully provide help to the future translators on translating engineering bidding documents. |
