China's economy has developed very fast over past 30 years. And in recent years, the government of China has held a lot of seminars to introduce advanced development experience to other countries.Lectures given in these seminars, however, are different from speeches of international conferences. The most difficult parts of these lectures are not vocabularies or proper nouns but Chinese management concepts,Chinese expressions and background information. Therefore, interpreters need to do different preparations for these lectures. This case study aims at exploring the following two questions based on consecutive interpreting of seminar on operational management of industrial park for Ethiopia:(1)How do preparations of Chinese management concepts,Chinese expressions and background information influence the quality of interpretation?(2)How should interpreters do preparations for lectures of government seminars? The author thinks that without doing preparations of Chinese management concepts and Chinese expressions, the interpreting may be wordy. And without doing preparations of background information, interpreters may misunderstand the speaker and misinterpret messages. Therefore, the author thinks that interpreters should take following three strategies to better do preparations: addition strategy(using universal concepts or addition of extra words to clarify the meaning),implicitation and background knowledge expansion(know more about the speaker and the topic).
