A Case Study On The Semantic Selection In The Translation Of Parenting Knowledge From English To Chinese

In view of the linguistic features of English,its word meaning is complicated and flexible with a wide range of semantic selections,resulting in confusion and mistakes in the process of English-Chinese translation.Based on case examples from parenting knowledgetranslation projects,this paper analyses the gain and loss of translatorswhile defining word meaning.The paper also reveals various means to help determine semantic meaning including terminology verification,logic reasoning,image search,customer feedback in the context of parenting knowledge.To help translators solve their problems,the paper then introduces a set of solutions,such as improving research skills,expanding background knowledge,learning jargons,verifying the accuracy of translation,communicating with clients and other requirements for translators.
