"Violin Sonata No.3 in C minor"(op.45)is one of the masterpieces of Edvard Grieg,a Norwegian composer, conductor and pianist in the late 19th century and early 20th century. He is the most accomplished composer in European national music school in the latter half of the 19th century. The work embodies Grieg's style and characteristics during the mature creation period, and uses his superb, unique music technology language. The form of his musical style is mainly influenced by three aspects, namely the German romantic style, the Nordic style and the Norwegian national style.Grieg's first and second violin sonatas were created only two years apart, but there is a gap of 20 years between his second work and third work.Grieg's first two violin sonatas are completed in a relatively short period of time, while the third sonata takes a considerable amount of time and efforts. This work, completed in 1887,has chamber music-like elements and the effect of concerto. This sonata consists of three movements, and its theme is characterized by the Norwegian dance melody.Compared to the previous two works, this piece of work places greater emphasis on folk melody and harmony. This thesis studies Grieg's "Violin Sonata No.3 in C minor" in four chapters. The first chapter is the introduction;the second chapter introduces the life of Grieg, his musical style and the historical background of this work. The third chapter deals with the performance practice of this work in each movement. The fourth chapter is the conclusion.
