A Practice Report On Translation Of The Selected Tour Commentaries For Heilongjiang Tourist Attractions(Part 3)

This is a translation practice report for the third part of The Selected Tour Commentaries for Heilongjiang Tourist.The original text was composed by Hou Wei,who is the director of Heilongjiang Tourism Bureau.Based on the introduction of the task client,the characteristics of the original text and the translation requisition from client,this report regards the Skopostheory of Vermeer as its theoretical basis,and details the difficulties and corresponding solutions in two aspect: linguistic and culture,which includes the names of scenic spots,time and dynasty,run-on sentences,non-corresponding words between Chinese and English,and Chinese four-character combination.The author fully takes the understanding and acceptability of the target language readers into consideration,and chooses appropriate translation methods according to the specific needs.Translating some words such as the names of scenic spots,the proper words in them should be literally translated and the common words in them can be translated liberally.As for the translation of some dynasty and reign titles,the omission and amplification translation methods should be used for shaking off some redundant information and adding some hidden information.Some proper adjustment should be used to the translation of some long,complex and run-on sentences,because there are so many minor sentences in Chinese sentences.And for the needs of proper stop and the target languages' acceptability,these sentences can be split according to the meaning and level of these sentences.There are some Non-corresponding words between Chinese and English,and Chinese four-character combination,because there are differences of culture between Chinese and English,and when translate these words the language expression differences should be concerned,and should follow the target readers' expression habits.It is best to transfer information accurately from the original text and translate it naturally to the target readers by using transliteration and amplification and other methods.This means that the author should take the characteristics of the language of original text and the culture of various ethnic into account.Through this translation practice,the author researches the text of tourism,and knows that should take in to consideration when translating this kind of text.This practice give the author valuable experience,and the author hope this report can give certain reference function for the translation colleagues.
