C-E Simultaneous Interpretation Of Interview Programs From The Perspective Of Functionalist Skopos Theory

With the development of diplomatic,economic and cultural exchanges between countries and regions in the world arena,interpreting has enormously developed as it is the most effective method of eradicating the obstacles of communication,reinforcing the relations and facilitating the understanding of cultures.In recent years,owing to the rapid advancement of media technology,interview programs containing recorded interpreted versions have been increasingly popular among the public.However,quite contrary to the prosperity of interview interpreting,research on this field is backward and fairly limited.The Skopos Theory indicates that every translational action has its own intended purpose,and the end justifies the means.Therefore,under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,interpreting can effectively and efficiently proceed with guaranteed accuracy.In interview program interpreting,interpreters have to adopt flexible tactics to solve the problems arising from field interpreting with strict time constraint and requirement of effective communication as well as accurate delivery of program`s information.The author finds that interview program interpreter can grasp the exact idea of the speech segment and present quality output which is idiomatic to target language listener from the perspective of Skopos Theory.Regarded as the core of Functionalist Theories of German School,the Skopos Theory is the theoretical ground of this thesis.The thesis starts with a brief introduction of the origin,development and the three main rules of the Skopos Theory,namely: the Skopos Rule,the Coherence Rule and the Fidelity Rule.Further,it discusses the applicability into interpreting.Then,emphasis is put on the application of the Skopos Theory to interview simultaneous interpreting.Regarding the special features of the interview programs,tactics with examples from field simultaneous interpreting by practitioners for interview programs are raised under the guidance of the Skopos Theory.In conclusion,the author points out the limitation of the thesis in expectation of further study in this field.Under the guidance of the Skopos Theory with adequate examples displayed,this thesis explores some interview translation strategies such as literal translation,free translation,omission,amplification and so on.It is hoped that this translation project can provide some useful reference to the practice and research of the interview translation.
