| In this thesis, the interpreter simulates a Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting of the session “Exploring China’s Economy” in “Yang Lan’s One on One”,a popular interviewing program in China. This report consists of five parts;they are introduction, task description, simultaneous interpreting(SI)process description, analysis report and conclusion. In the second part, the interpreter describes this task in three aspects, which includes characteristics of simultaneous interpreting in TV programs, task of the interpreter and audience analysis. In the third part, the interpreter focuses on the description of the whole process. They are preparation before interpreting, with background information preparation, linguistic knowledge preparation and theory preparation included;process of interpreting;feedback from audience. The fourth part serves as the most key chapter in this report. In this part, the interpreter analyzes her problems and accordingly puts forward countermeasures. The first problem is about structural difference between Chinese and English. The interpreter analyzes three different situations: Premodifier versus Post-modifier,Induction versus Deduction and Hypotaxis versus Parataxis. To cope with these differences, the interpreter adopts the strategy of segmentation, anticipation and supplement. The second problem is about the information intensiveness which covers information overload and information redundancy. Here, the interpreter uses the strategy of omission, compression and merging. The third problem is about the information difficulty,in which the interpreter adopts the strategy of explanation and omission. The last problem is about the constraints of subtitles. In this part the interpreter uses the interpreting strategy of energy distribution. To conduct such an interpreting practice is of constructive significance to some extent. On one hand, the interpreting of such kind of TV program can provide some useful ideas for other interpreters who want to interpret interviewing programs. On the other hand, personally, the interpreter herself can practice her interpreting skills and improve interpreting performance in the future. |
