Reading teaching is a very important part of TCSL.The traditional reading teaching focuses on the understanding of vocabulary and grammar,neglecting students' cognitive process.The schema theory stemmed from cognitive psychology,and developed into a reading theory.Now,it is widely applied in second language reading teaching.The application of schema theory to TCSL reading class can motivate students to use their obtained schemas as well as cognitive strategies,and make reading more efficient.This paper starts from a literature review on the application of schema theory to second language reading teaching in China.The author introduces the frame and background of related theories,then comes up with some ideas about TCSL reading teaching,which are on the basis of the texts in Intermediate Chinese Reading Course.Finally,the efficiency of the reading teaching method is proven by a scientific teaching experiment conducted by the author.The whole paper consists of four parts:Introduction mainly explains the background and meaning of this research.Also,a literature review on the application of schema theory to English teaching as well as to TCFL in China is provided.Chapter one is the introduction to some ground knowledge of reading researches and schema theory,including the specifications of three reading models,the development of schema theory and the cognitive strategies applied in reading process.Chapter two indicates the applications of schema theory to TCFL reading class respectively,from the whole three stages of reading process,combining with the texts in Intermediate Chinese Reading Course.Chapter three displays the process of teaching experiment conducted by the author and analysis of statistics done through SPSS.Meanwhile,the results and revelations are showed at last.
