Translators should adopt different strategies in translating written and spoken language. When translating Chinese interview transcripts, the author of this thesis found that word-byword transcript translations are even harder than written text translations because of many logical traps and expressing difficulties in colloquial language. After accumulating more experience in interview transcript translation, this thesis presents four general characteristics of interview transcripts, which are colloquialization, conversation coherence, relatively loose logic, and relatively vague information. In view of these characteristics, through comparative analysis of the initial translation and revision, this thesis suggests four translation strategies: adjusting speaker's tone to reflect the characteristics of spoken English;achieving reasonable conversation coherence to ensure the translated text is easy to understand;making clear the spoken language logic to avoid the logic trap;and checking the original recordings to ensure that the transcripts are correct. In general, translators should not only have a sense of style and do not apply written text translation strategies in spoken language translation, but also pay attention to the appropriateness of the translation to produce a high-quality translation that is complete, accurate and easy to read.
