An interview transcript is a written copy of conversations between the interviewer and the interviewee. As a form of verbal communication, conversations during interview contain the message that the speaker,or in most cases the interviewee, intends to deliver in the form of answering the questions brought up by the interviewer. As the message in an interview is delivered in spoken-language,the translator of an interview transcript plays a role that is very much in common with that of an interpreter – a mouthpiece between the interviewer and interviewee. An international research project titled INTERSECTION: Intergenerational Justice,Consumption, and Sustainability in Comparative Perspective, collects data in China through interviews carried out in communities, volunteer organizations and services.Following the case analysis of the translation of the interview transcripts, this thesis emphasizes the importance of delivering the intended messages between the speakers, rather than the verbal forms of expression, proposing effective strategies for translating interview transcripts based on a discussion of the spoken-language features involved in such texts.
