A Translation Report On Interpretation Of Chinese Traditional Translation Theories(Chapter 1-Chapter2)

Interpretation of Chinese Traditional Translation Theories is an academic work of translation studies by Professor Wang Hongyin.It involves ten chapters and illustrates many Chinese traditional translation theories.The text can be divided into three parts in terms of time order,including the ancient,modern and contemporary periods.Besides,there are four phases embodied in the text from the perspective of the development of translation theories,including translation theories of Buddhist sutras from the very beginning,the justification of translation theories,philosophical translation theories and artistic translation theories in the end.All these demonstrate the logic and the real nature of the advancement of the theories.Due to the writing style and linguistic features of the source text,with complex sentences and professional terms,the communicative method put forward by Peter Newmark is largely employed based on the theoretical support of his text type theory.The translation report is written according to this translation practice and is meant to recall my translation process,helping me to rethink myself and the translated text.I choose the first two chapters of the source text to translate.The first chapter illustrates the ontology of translation from three different angles,including ontology,objectivity and subjectivity differences,and also explains the modern significance of the loss of the translation ontology based on Daoan's "Five Losses and Three Difficulties" theory.The second chapter introduces Yancong's "Eight Requirements" theory,discusses translators'subjectivity,and explores the issues of translators' roles and Chinese translation history.I choose the source text because it is highly scholarly,original and challenging,without any published translated version.The translation report is composed of five chapters.Chapter one is introduction,which briefly introduces the background,objectives,and significance of the translation project.Chapter two is the analysis of the author and the writing style of the source text.Chapter three is about the basic description of the translation process,which involves pre-translating work,the,difficulties in the process of translation and proofreading after translation.The pre-translation work includes the formulation of the translation plan,the analysis of parallel texts and the regulation of target language readers.Besides,this part presents the theory that is adopted in translation in detail.Chapter four is the key part.It demonstrates kinds of difficulties,such as the understanding of specialized terminology in Buddhism and the translation of classical Chinese sentences,and also analyzes some typical and complex cases which bring difficulties to me in translation.Meanwhile,this part introduces translation methods and skills I have used during my translation process.Chapter five is the conclusion.It mainly involves experience and lessons I have learned and unsolved problems in my translation project as well.
