A Report On Consecutive Interpreting Practice From The Perspective Of Effort Model

Interpreting is of great practicality.For student interpreters,it is practically significant to conduct and summarize the interpreting practice in light of relevant theories.This dissertation is a report on consecutive interpreting practice which was conducted by the author at the banquet of the 9th Great Tumen Initiative Tourism Board Meeting in 2016.Rational allocation of energy is an essential factor affecting the quality of consecutive interpreting.Under the guidance of Effort Model,this report summarizes and analyses difficulties and coping strategies in the consecutive interpreting practice,from which all the examples are picked cautiously.The author divided the task process into three stages:preparation,process description and summary,each elaborating different working contents.During the interpreting practice,the author encountered multitudes of tricky language elements,including the difficulties in listening and analysis,short-term memory and production,which are analyzed and solved respectively from the perspective of Effort Model.Difficulties in listening and analysis mainly include improper pronunciation and uncertain expressions.Difficulties in short-term memory consist of information with high density and illogical sentences.And difficulties in production exist in culture-specific expressions and the redundancy.To deal with these obstacles,the author goes on to probe into the corresponding solutions including vagueness,anticipation,"deverbalization",amplification and omission.The author was greatly enlightened by this interpreting practice.Consecutive interpreting is a kind of interpretation which requires interpreters a lot.In order to be a qualified interpreter,the following factors should be paid heed to:Firstly,adequate preparation is of vital importance to the smoothness of interpreting progress.In addition,it is high language proficiency and flexible application of interpreting strategies that constitute prerequisite for fluent performance.In the final analysis,good psychological quality is conducive to interpreters' contingency capability.Hopefully,this report can provide some referential value which will contribute to the further interpreting learning and practice.
