The Effect Of Subjective Social Class On Intertemporal Choice

People compare the benefits of different time points,and then the process of making judgment decisions is the intertemporal choice.According to the class of social cognitive theory,social class formed the environmental characteristics of a particular way of thinking and behavior,this study integrated new research perspective of class,to explore the influence of subjective social class on intertemporal choice,and put forward the two moderator variables: the opportunity cost and threat clues.The moderator effect of them in the relationship is investigated.It has enriched the research field related to social class and promoted the understanding of the intertemporal choice of individual variables.Study 1A discusses the relationship between the subjective class and intertemporal choice preliminarily.Using the questionnaire method,150 undergraduates as subjects,subjective class by m aking the participants report subjective social status,intertemporal choice choose titration is a fixed sequence of tasks,to delay discount rate as index.Results show that the individual's subjective class level was significant for the forecast of delay discount rate,the stratum of the higher college students,the smaller delay discount rate and suggests more preference delay for(LL),which can delay gratification;The lower the subjective class,the higher the discount rate,indicating a preference fo r immediate reward(S S).Study 1B by manipulating subjective class,this paper discusses a cause-and-effect relationship between subjective class and intertemporal choice,intertemporal choice task is under the specific situation of dual task options,assessment scale at 7 on behalf of intertemporal choice preference.Results show that compared with the subjective class of high college students,the subjective low class of college students in task intertemporal choice preference for immediate reward(SS),and the class of high college students prefer to delay in the intertemporal choice large waiting(LL).Study 2 using 2(manipulating subjective class: high/low)x 2(opportunity cost with/without)between the subjects of experimental design,147 college undergraduates as subjects,randomly assigned to four kinds of condition,the dependent variable by evaluating scale at 7 on behalf of intertemporal choice preference.The results showed that the subjective class and opportunity costs on the intertemporal choice preference have a significant interaction,under the condition of opportunity cost hint,high subjective class college students than low of college students' preference for immediate reward(SS);Under the condition of no opportunity cost,college students with lower subjective class preferred immediate reward(SS)than college students with higher subjective class.The opportunity cost prompt only affects the participants of the high class group,but does not affect the lower class group.Studies 3 clues variables by introducing a threat,2(start classes: high/low)x 2(threat clues: with/without)between the subjects of experimental design,with 102 college undergraduates as subjects,randomly assigned to four kinds of condition,the dependent variable by evaluating scale at 7 on behalf of intertemporal choice preference.The results showed that college students with lower subjective class were more likely to be satisfied with immediate gratification than those with higher subjective status under threat cues.Under the condition of control group,there was no significant difference in the intertemporal choice preference between different subjective classes.Based on the above studies,it is concluded that different subjective social classes influence individual intertemporal choice preference,and lower classes prefer instant gratification(SS)in intertemporal choice compared with high class.Opportunity cost moderate in the relationship of class and intertemporal choice : under the condition of opportunity cost hint,college students subjective social class is high than low class of college students prefer to meet immediately(SS);Under the condition of no opportunity cost,the college students with lower subjective class are more likely to satisfy(SS)than the college students with higher subjective status.Threat cues moderate in the relationship of class and intertemporal choice: under the condition of a threat cues,low stratum of college students is higher than subjective class college students prefer to meet immediately(SS).
