Difficulties Of Redundant Information And Methods In Interpreting

Netease Games Launch Conference includes an overview of the previous year and business strategy,updates and introduction of the characteristics and scene settings.The frequent use of professional terms,the diversity of topics,and the combination of formal addressing and less formal sharing are three main features of a product launch conference.The author conducted a simulated simultaneous interpreting on the task and notices that the redundant information causes difficulties on interpreting.The author classifies the appearance of redundant information in four aspects:first,the redundant explanations on products,some random examples of products are not important for audience;second,repeated words,redundant twins and category words can lead to trace of Chinese language in target text;third,structural redundancy,when information is located loosely in sentences,the author find it difficult to highlight key messages in English;fourth,paraphrasing,speakers explain terms again in different words.The interpretive theory emphasizes on the communication of sense.Based on this,the author proposed four methods to improve the convey of information:first,anticipation on contextual level,use on-topic knowledge to understand the topic and convey the sense;second,reconstruction the redundant twins and category words which make no sense in English;third,specification of logical links,transform the information rather than the forms in source text;fourth,omission,avoid misunderstanding in target texts.
