Since the reform and opening up in 1979,China has witnessed a rapid rise of its economy. In the process of continuous economic development, interpretation is indispensable to activities by all walks of life, ranging from foreign trade to science and technology. In recent years,China’s mobile phone industry has developed rapidly, with Xiaomi, one of the front-runners,surpassing Apple in mobile phone sales in the second quarter of 2021 to become the world’s second largest mobile phone seller for the first time.MIUI,the standard operating system for every Xiaomi phone,is available in 80 languages and in 221 countries and regions. Its latest launch has attracted tremendous attention on the part of its foreign users, rendering interpretation all the more necessary for communication between the producers and users. This report is based on the simulated simultaneous interpretation task of MIUI12.5launch event held on December 28,2020,which was successfully completed under the guidance of the interpreter’s supervisors and was observed by the interpreter’s peers and cohorts on the ground with the auspices of the college leaders. The entire simulated interpretation was mostly guided by the “Triangular Model” of interpretive theory.Through this simulated interpretation, the interpreter has deepened the knowledge of how simultaneous interpretation is conducted at international science and technology conferences, and has obtained a firmer grasp on how to apply interpretation theory to practice. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter one introduces the source, background, features and objectives of the interpretation task.Chapter two reviews the entire process of the interpreting task, mainly from the three episodes of preparation, implementation and post interpretation.Chapter three gives a general introduction to the interpretive theory and its application in interpreting practice.Chapter four analyzes some specific interpretation strategies and skills under the guidance of the “Triangular Model”.Chapter five describes the interpreter’s self-reflection and suggestions for future interpretation. |
