A Practice Report On The Translation Of Speculative Everything:Design,Fiction And Social Dreaming (Preface And Chapter 1-Chapter 3)

Today's design encounters greater challenges and higher requirements due to the progressive development of material civilization and spiritual civilization.It is the same for the demands to the new experience and notions of the foreign designers.This translation report is based on the translation of the Preface and Chapter I to Chapter III in Speculative Everything: Design,Fiction and Social Dreaming,written by the English critical designers Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby.This book introduces such ideas as radical design,conceptual design and critical design and encourages people to create an alternative by combining design with technology.It represents a good appreciation and study value in design.The report is mainly divided into four parts: Chapter one gives a brief introduction to the translation task and its significance;Chapter two describes the translation process including preparations before translation,translation process and works after translation;Chapter three analyzes the translation obstacles and the corresponding solutions based on context principle and the relevance theory.The corresponding translation strategies are adopted due to the differences between Chinese and English language.The strategies include adding notes for proper nouns,deciding the lexical meanings by changing the part of speech or by semantic extension according to the context as well as the adoption of amplification and structure shift.The translation endeavors to assure that readers can have access to get fluent and accurate text.Chapter four is a summary of experiences and problems about this translation practice.It is sincerely hoped that this practice report can provide a reference for later translation practice.
