Dust Settled Down,the book written by Chinese Tibetan writer A Lai,has made a great difference in domestic since the publication,and won the Mao Dun Literature Award in 2000.The English version Red Poppies was translated by a famous sinologist——Howard Goldblatt,and published by Hough Mifflin Company in 2002.Translated in English,the Chinese Tibetan literature has a chance to come to the West.From the oriental ethnic minorities to the western world and from the Tibetan thought to the Chinese expression and finally to the English translation,it provides a wide space for translation studies.This thesis is based on the Tibetan culture symbols in the novel.First of all,it will compare the meanings of the Tibetan culture's images in the original with the version,point out the changes of meanings and different understands which maybe caused by the changes.Making certain what control the translator's behaviors by exploring the ways of translation.Secondly,analyzing the phenomenon of cultural betrayal in the original,and on this basis analyzing the translator's contributions to the cultural exchanges and the inevitable consequences of cultural betrayal during the translation process.Finally,turning translation problems to the thought of intercultural equivalence,putting forward a way:melancholy turn.In addition,indicate that betrayal is a method making the nation audible,this is a therapeutic endeavor in translations.This thesis tries to make a deeply thought of the intercultural issues by comprehensive analysis.
