Comparison Of Lu Xun’s And Chekhov’s Fiction And Artistry

This paper studies Lu Xun and Chekhov,two literary figures from different historical backgrounds.The history of China and Russia has provided them with various social and ideal problems.It is said that the writer’s task is to react to or confront these pressing problems on differing levels,and that only the two writers can write their realist works,which occurred in the same revolutionary age,in their own respective country.Hence,Chekhov and Lu Xun must have common points in literature and art.Therefore,this paper attempts to study the historico-genetical characteristics,the motivation and goals of the works with respect to the two writers’ different backgrounds.Based on the research of their works and artistic materials including their contemporaries’ recollections,writers’ comments from different countries,and the critics’ opinion on society and literature,this paper compares the themes,main characters,the structure and the main ideas of Lu Xun and Chekhov’s work,as well as the author’s attitude towards them.Moreover,this paper compares and analyzes their works’ influence on one’s country society.
