Researches On The Seal Cutting And Calligraphy Art Of Chen Dingke

Chen Dingke,a native excellent artist in aspect of calligraphy and seal cutting in the last century,was born in a cultural family and a master of poetry,calligraphy and seal cutting.Chen Dingke was born in Hubei and learned the reading and basic calligraphy from his father Chen Bingshu in adolescence.Since then,he has widely dabbled in ancient classic literatures and had a comprehensive and deep study.In youth,he went to Shanghai for study and acknowledged Xu Zhenli from Changsha as his teacher for learning calligraphy and seal cutting.In the period of serving his Father Chen Bingshu,he ever got the guidance of masters of poetry,calligraphy and seal cutting from Shanghai.At that time,celebrities,like Tan Zekai,Xu Zhenli,Mao Xiaolu,Li Guosong,Yuan Siliang,Chen Shaomei,were biased in favor of his engraved seals and greatly praised his artistic achievements.He settled in Wuhan since 1946 and died in 1990.However,due to various complicated reasons,Chen Dingke's life story and artistic achievements have not been paid enough attention.This paper aims to fully excavate Chen Dingke's life story and artistic materials and has carried an in-depth study on his family background,teachers,seal cutting style and origin,calligraphy style,artistic thought and ideas and so on,so as to figure out the reason for his artistic style formation and limited artistic fame.A timeline of Chen Dingke's life is attached to the end of this paper for reference.This paper is mainly divided into six parts:The first part mainly discusses the life experience of Chen Dingke and it is conducted from two aspects: the birth and family background of Chen Dingke,his life story and teachers.The second part makes a study on his art of seal cutting.It is conducted from two aspects: his cutting art characteristics and the origin of his style formation.The third part mainly studies the calligraphy art of Chen Dingke.It appreciates hisearly and late calligraphy works.The forth part studies the reasons for the formation of Chen's seal-cutting and calligraphy art style.It is conducted from three aspects: family education tradition,individual personality and the background of the era.The fifth part mainly discusses Chen Dingke's thoughts on seal cutting and calligraphy art.It is summed up from two aspects: his discussion on seal cutting and poetries and his thoughts finished by his students.
