An English-chinese Translation Report On Animal Talk(excerpts)

This thesis is an English-Chinese translation report based on the certain chapters of the author's translation of Animal talk,which is an authoritative and popular book on animal communication in the world.According to the latest scientific discoveries,the book clearly answers a series of thought-provoking questions: there is a universal language used and understood between all the human beings and animals;for hundreds of years,linguists and philosophers have argued that human languages are not unique on the earth;the human language is the same as the highly developed communication parts among other species.This report is mainly made up of five chapters.Chapter One is the introduction,which includes project background,project significance,report structure.Chapter Two describes translation preparation,including a brief introduction to main content of Animal Talk,language analysis to the source text and the use of translation tools.Chapter Three mainly explains Skopos Theory and the feasibility of the translation method based on the theory.With the textual case analysis,it deeply discusses translation methods from the three levels,such as morphology,syntax and discourse.Chapter Four generalizes the experience and limitation in the translation practice.Chapter Five summarizes the whole translation practice and puts forward some thoughts and suggestions in order to accumulate experience for future translation practice.
