A Report On The Translation Of Economic Text From The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

With the continuous development of economic globalization,economic links between countries have become closer and international exchange activities have become more frequent.Tax policies,as an important measure,play a pivotal role in promoting investment and economic development.However,the development of enterprises is also not the same in the world,for which we can learn from the advanced development and management experience of the West.Therefore,it is very important to understand the stylistic features of the English tax policy texts and accurately understand and translate foreign economic texts.This translation practice report is based on the translation of Quebec tax system — an effective measure to promote investment.It is composed of the following four parts: The first part is the translation project description,which mainly introduces the background of the translation task,the characteristics of the project content,and the research significance of the project;the second part is the description of the translation process:Pre-translation,translation and post-translation work;the third part is the core chapter of this practice report,namely,translation case analysis.Based on the linguistic features of English economic texts,the author applies the functional equivalence theory of Eugene Nida to analyze the translation methods of Word additions,word order adjustments,division,anaphora and cohesion from three levels of vocabulary,syntax,and discourse;The last part is the conclusion about the experience got from this practice.Through this translation practice report,the author analyzes and summarizes the translation methods applied in the translation of economic texts,aiming at exploring the applicability of functional equivalence Theory to the translation of economic texts,which may hopefully provide help to the future translators on translating economic texts.
