The source text(ST)is Chapter Five of Thinking Skills for the Digital Generation: The Development of Thinking and Learning in the Age of Information.The authors are Balu H.Athreya and Chrystalla Mouza.The ST is an informative type,which provides the definition and types of thinking skills,analyzes the “Digital Generation” as well as the technology and media used by them.Information-seeking models in the Age of Information are also analyzed,which can guide readers to understand information-seeking technologies and to choose correct and effective searching methods and thinking skills.Chapter Five begins by providing a historical context of the Information Age and the transition from oral history,to printing press,to the Internet.It subsequently presents well-known information-seeking models and behaviors.Further,it presents challenges associated with navigating the information landscape and articulates the importance of information literacy skills for people.There are many polysemic words,sentences with passive voice and sentences with multiple modifiers in Chapter Five.The translator analyzes its text type according to Reiss' s functional approach and Nord's instrumental translation strategy to adopt ways of rephrasing,voice change and division to deal with difficulties on the basis of specific contexts.The whole translation project report contains five parts: Part 1 gives a brief introduction to the translation project,followed by the analysis of ST in Part 2.Part 3 presents translation theories.Part 4 analyzes difficulties in translation and solutions.And a conclusion is made in Part 5.Nowadays,people are living in the Age of Information and they are exposed to countless information,so it is significant for them to master methods of selecting and using information.Therefore,the translator chooses Chapter Five of this book to do the translation project.This Chapter presents some information-seeking means and analyzes the definition of thinking,which can instruct people to deal with overload information and promote the modern development.
