W.H.Auden?Wystan Hugh Auden,1907-1973?is one of the greatest English modern poets after Yeats and Eliot in the 1st half of the 20thcentury.As we know,Auden yielded fruitful outcomes with changeable poetic style and he had been to China during the anti-Japanese war. Most importantly,he was introduced to China in the 1930s and exerted a great influence upon Chinese literary world. Therefore,“Auden and China”is a very considerable academic project. However, the studies on the project of Auden and China are far from complete. Therefore, this thesis intends to expound Auden'sculturaljourneyinChinafromtheperspectiveof medio-translatology as well as explain the impact of Auden's poetry on the development of Chinese modernistic poetry, taking the analysis of Auden's poems In Time of War as an example and to elucidate the translator's subjectivity in literary translation.Medio-translatology regards translation as a practical activity of intercultural communication. It focuses on the meaning and value of translation as cultural exchange from the differences and development of two cultural paradigms.Medio-translatology cares more about the deformation, addition and expanding between source text and target text as well as its meaning in cross-cultural communication. In the past one hundred years, the exchange between Chinese and English culture was relatively frequent, which enhanced the mutual understanding of China and England.Auden's translation and reception in China is a major cultural event that cannot be ignored in the history of Chinese-English cultural exchanges.Hence, the study on Auden's translation and reception in China is not only has important academic value, but also enjoys rich practical significance.Especially in the context of our country's emphasis on strengthening people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, the value of this research is particularly prominent.By taking a medio-translatological perspective, this thesis examines the reception context, translator's subjectivity and the linguistic differences between Chinese and English languages in the translation and acceptance of W.H.Auden in China.By exerting such a theory, this thesis tried to explain why and how Auden was translated in China,to reveal the value and function of the translator's subjectivity in literary translation. This thesis argues that the translation and acceptance of the outstanding poet Auden in China is a logical result in a specific historical context, and the translator as a mediator regardless of the choice of the translation object or the language expression in translation and imagery conversion all fully exerted its subjective role in the important cultural exchange event.
