Analysis On The Errors Of English Documentary Subtitle Translation

Subtitle translation has grown more and more popular with the development of globalization.Although it shares some similarities with literature translation,it has its own unique translation strategies due to its special text type.This paper aims to study the distinctive translation strategies from English to Chinese of subtitle translation and its translation standards based on the documentary Coast Australia as a case.In order to obtain desirable results,this research paper adopts the following research methods: Firstly,literature review: it would summarize the current status of domestic subtitle translation,introduce the limitation factors of the subtitle translation and the theoretical basis for the classification of the translation errors;Secondly,corpus analysis: Guided by the theoretical basis,it makes data statistics and analysis of the subtitle translation errors.Thirdly,case study: it uses examples to discuss those distinctive translation errors due to its special text type and draw the conclusion of translation strategies.The paper summarizes three distinctive subtitle translation strategies,namely,deletion,rewording and adaptation strategies in order to meet the limitation of the subtitle translation.It is advised that translators should adopt the simple and short sentence to translate the original work and select desirable translation strategies for different translation work.
