With the prosperity of the Venetian economy in the 16 th century,the Renaissance was gradually moved from the center of the arts,such as Florence to Venice.During this period,the theme of "Marriage in Cana " was depicted far more than any periods before,and different from the traditional single sacred image.During this period,the humanistic sentiment of the Renaissance period and the contemporary secular life as well as the sacred image of Venice were put together in the image of "Marriage in Cana ".This article aims to explore the relation between sacred and secular in the image during that period by studying Paolo Veronese’s Marriage in Cana as a representative work of the new period,with the research method of combining image study.This dissertation analyzes the divine pleasure in each phase and the image evolution in "Marriage in Cana ",as well as compare the creation of 16 th century Italian painter " Marriage in Cana " image,in order to highlight the unique meaning in Paolo Veronese reception of " Marriage in Cana ".The core of the thesis lies in the coexistence of the sacredness and profane nature of the " Marriage in Cana ".From the Veronese’s understanding of the text,image rendering method,the significance and the 16 th century Venice upper-class social life,combining the symbolic language,clothing accessories,physical performance,building decoration and the stage of exploration etc,to show the the close relationship between sanctity and secularism.
