The thesis is a report about the translation of source text: Fracturing Unconventional Formations to Enhance Productivity.The source text is an academic thesis,which mainly introduces the new technology about fracturing the unconventional formations.With the guiding principles of Functional Equivalence Theory put forward by Nida,the author does the translation work of this text.The author discusses the difficulties in the whole translation process,and tries to find out the possible coping strategies and solutions.The whole translation process consists of “pre-translation preparations” “translating” and “revision of the translation”.The report puts some emphasis on “pretranslation preparations”.The main three steps of this phase are described in details.In the chapter of case analysis,centering on the Functional Equivalence Theory,the author analyzes the translation of typical words,sentences and discourses that occur in the original text,and summarizes the translation methods for different translation problems.Through the task description and case analysis,the report concludes as follows: the Functional Equivalence Theory is applicable to the translation of English for Science and Technology(EST),and the translators need to adopt flexible means to reach the requirements of Functional Equivalence Theory.
