A Report On The Translation Of Responding To Oil Spills In The U.S. Arctic Marine Environment (Excerpts)

With the rapid growth of vessel traffic in Arctic,keeping oil out of the water will not be purely a function of sound drilling practices,but of sound vessel traffic management,which raises a host of concerns for protection of Arctic ecosystems and for preparedness to respond in the event of a marine accident.This report chooses Chapter Four of the book Responding to Oil Spills in the U.S.Arctic Marine Environment as the translation material.Through translation practice,the translator hopes to improve the ability of translating scientific and technical text as well as provide some reference for the work of responding oil spill problem in our country.This translation practice report is composed of four chapters: task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.Chapter One briefly introduces the main content of the source text,the significance and aim of the translation.Chapter Two includes the pre-translation preparation and the process analysis.The pre-translation preparation contains five aspects: preparation of background information,parallel texts,glossary,translation tools and translation theory.The process analysis part discusses the steps of this translation practice and the difficult points in translation practice.Chapter Three analyzes the translation methods which are used to solve word and sentence problems,based on Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory.The last Chapter summarizes the main contents of the translation report and the translator's apperception.
