A Research On Characters Of The Radical Of Yu Of ShuoWenJieZi

ShuoWenJieZi which compiled by Xu Shen in the Eastern Han Dynasty is the first book that systematically analyzes and studies the shape and the origin of Chinese characters.It establishes "the six categories of Chinese characters” theory,and is the first to create the radical choreography,which lays foundation for compilation of later dictionaries and wordbooks.In this paper,the radical of Yu in ShuoWenJieZi are taken as objects,and literature review methods,comparative mutual proof method,statistical induction method are used to conduct a comprehensive and in-depth study of the radical of Yu.This aims at further improving the research on radicals in Shuo WenJieZi and providing a reference for follow-up research on radicals in ShuoWenJieZi.The paper is mainly divided into the following parts:The first part is the introduction,which expounds the significance of the topic from perspectives of study on Chinese characters,lexicography and cultural linguistics.This part also defines the research object,summarizes the existing results and status of research on the radical of Yu in the ShuoWenJieZi,and puts forward research methods on the basis of above.In the second part,the shape of characters in the radical of Yu is analyzed from two aspects.First,the traditional theory of“the six categories of Chinese characters ” is used,and the theory and methods of modern linguistics are combined to find out the structure of the radical of Yu in the ShuoWenJieZi.The radical of Yu are analyzed from generation pathway,and functions of semantic complement and phonetic element.Second,variants of the same character in the radical of Yu are analyzed.Variants and fractal characters of the radical of Yu are summarized and the producing way and causes are discussed.The third part describes the significance of the radical of Yu in ShuoWen JieZi.It mainly includes: Firstly,based on the paraphrasing of ShuoWenJieZi,and by reference to Er Ya,Yu Pian and other books,the meaning system of the radical of Yu is summarized according to existing literature materials and modern zoology.Secondly,the way of paraphrasing of the radical of Yu is investigated and function of paraphrasing is analyzed.Thirdly,by comparing the relationship between the original meaning of the radical of Yu in Chinese Dictionary and the paraphrasing of the radical of Yu in the ShuoWenJieZi,the effect of paraphrasing of the radical of Yu in the Shuo WenJieZi on their original meaning is discussed.The fourth part gives the cultural connotations of the radical of Yu in the ShuoWenJieZi from two aspects.First,by taking the radical of Yu in the ShuoWenJieZi as a foothold,the fisheries development during the Qin and Han dynasties is explored.Secondly,the diet culture custom and the development of fish-eating culture are explored.The fifth part makes a conclusion by refining the main ideas and pointing out the research deficiencies and issues that require further study.
