A Translation Report Of A Girl Is A Half-formed Thing (Excerpts)

The translation materials are from A Girl is a Half-formed Thing,a modern novel published in 2013,written by young Irish writer Eimear Mcbride.The book,from a first-person perspective,tells a story of the complicated relationship between a girl and her family,especially the relationship between the girl and her brother,who suffered from serious brain tumor.Set in Ireland in the end of last century,the novel involves extensive themes,including family,immigration,religion and sex.The contents of this translation practice are extracted from the first,fourth,and the last chapter of this book.The theoretical basis of this translation practice is Jin Di's Principle of Equivalent Effect,and the report includes five parts.The introduction part is mainly about this translation practice.The first chapter introduces the writer of the book,Eimear Mcbride and her works,and this task of translation and the text of this book.The second chapter concerns about my preparation before and the process of this translation.The third chapter includes the introduction of Equivalent Effect Theory and some related case analyses,which are divided into the equivalent translation of psychology descriptions,movement descriptions,verbal descriptions and religion descriptions,etc.After these analyses are the difficulties I confront in this translation procedure and the solutions to them.The final part is the conclusion of the whole translation practice.
