Chen Jin was a poetic and Confucianism theorist in the Reigns of JiaDao in Qing Dynasty who owned two peculiar poetic monograph named “Questioned and Answered in Bamboo Forest” and “Poetry Readings”.“Questioned and Answered in Bamboo Forest” is a kind of notes on poets and poetry in the style of question-and-answer.There are lots of theories about poetry composition and poetic criticism.“Poetry Readings”is a poetics writing which translated the Songs in the form of notes on poets and poetry.On the whole,the author Chen Jin did well in textual research and was proficient in meter,so which he presented and commented were detail,accurate and evidentiary.This paper explored Chen Jin's poetics ideology by combining with the environment of academic and thought in Reigns of JiaDao in Qing Dynasty.This paper includes three chapters:The body of the first chapter analysis Chen Jin's poetry composition theory.The writings named “Questioned and Answered in Bamboo Forest”is collected according to dialogues about Chen Jin helping his nephew in poetry composition.So there is a great deal of discussions about poetry composition.This chapter will explore Chen Jin's poetry composition theory from two aspects: The first one is Subjective and objective conditions of Poetry composition including “morality”,”talent”,”smart learning” and “circumstances” which influenced by the environment and epoch.The second one is Methods and skills of Poetry composition which concludes the allusion of the poetry and the methods of polishing words,sentences,rhymes and meanings.The second chapter discusses Chen Jin's theoretical perspectives about poetic rhythm.The first section talks over Chen Jin's aesthetic view of the rhythm of poetry:Chen Jin Highly stresses the rhythms of the Songs which is recognized as the ontology of poetry.And then he puts forward an aesthetic requirement that the rhythms are harmony and pleasing to our ears about the poetry.On this basis,ChenJin interprets the Songs through the rhythms of the Songs and promotes the reading of the Songs according to the rhythm of the Songs for understanding the meanings outside the sound and content of the Songs.The second section talks over Chen Jin's views about the origin of poetic rhymes: Chen Jin regards the Songs as the source of the ancient rhyme and the tributary of the current rhyme.He also proves that the Songs is the "rules of rhyme" for later poetry by examining the rhyme of the Songs.And it shows the Songs is the source of the later generations of poetry.The third section explains the value of Chen's poetic rhyme theory from the perspective of the value of phonology and the interpretation of the Songs.The third chapter researches Chen Jin's poetry criticism.Chen Jin's poetry criticism is reflected in two aspects: his poetic criticism attitude and the method of poetry criticism.Chen Jin opposes the defect of “sticking”,”farfetched”,”trivial” in poetry about poem and advocates a kind of equitable and dialectical attitude toward criticism.In term of the method of poetry,he mainly adopts the three methods: tracing source,image criticism,and empirical evidence to explain his theory of criticism.Chen Jin's criticism is deeply related to the social and cultural environment of the Qing dynasty.
