With the rapid development of medical and health service, medical laws and medical ethics in medical practices have aroused more interests. As increasing disputes in legal cases and moral codes in medical field arise and gain more social attention, the study of the medical laws which prescribe proper behavior rules in medical practice and medical ethics which sets values with reference to confusion or conflict in relation to participants becomes urgent. In order to better deal with disputes or conflicts in medical practice,it’s urgent to implement healthcare legislation and strengthen the education on laws and ethics. The most convenient solution is to take foreign documents and literature as references. Therefore,it’s particularly important to study English documents in the field relating to medical laws and ethics and to translate relevant foreign literature.Based on the translation project of Medical Law and Ethics accomplished by the translator, the translation report provides an analysis of overall work done by the translator. It offers a description of characteristics of texts of medical laws and medical ethics and gives a detailed study of difficulties in translating medical texts. As for the theoretical basis, the report takes the skopos theory(the skopos rule, the loyalty rule, the coherence rule)as her translation guidance. The focus of the work is translation strategies with regard to translation at lexical and syntactic level. At its lexical level, the translator adopts zero translation, annotation, nominalization, change of expressive methods and combination. The translator uses zero translation and annotation in translating medical, legal and ethical terminologies andcomes up with nominalization, change of expressive methods and combination when dealing the translation of culture-loaded words. At its syntactic level, the translator adopts segmentation, inversion, change of voice and negation to make the translation coherent and to make information conveyed by the translation understandable for its target readers. In addition, the report summarizes achievements and limitations of the translation project and provides suggestions hoping that the translation strategies used in this translation project may provide enlightenment and reference to translators who translate contents associated to medical laws and medical ethics.
