With the development of society, the public has an increasing demand for scientific knowledge. Popular science spreads scientific knowledge in ways easy to understand. Thus, it is essential to translate popular science English.This report aims to describe the difficulties met in the process of translation and solutions to the difficulties, and come up with the strategies used in the process of translating popular medical English. It attaches more importance to the description of the process of solving difficulties met in terms translation.This report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces how the source text is selected and offers a description of their content. The source text is selected from Nature and concerned with the essence, research and advances, prevention and treatment of cancer. Then it analyses the text characteristics from macro and micro perspectives, including literary style,language style, voice, rhetoric, etc. Next is the preparation for the translation project, including the preparation of knowledge and translation tools. Finally it introduces the quality control of the target text, including seeking help from the Internet, supervisor and professionals. The second chapter first introduces the Skopos theory, including Skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule.Then the translation strategies chosen under the guidance of Skopos theory are introduced through some examples, including literal translation, free translation, compensation and omission.The third chapter introduces the difficulties in translating terms and solutions. The problems the translator encounters may be attributable to the translator's lack of knowledge of biology and medicine. Many kinds of tools are used together to solve the difficulties, including professional dictionaries, relevant websites and forums. The translator also seeks help from medical and biological professionals. The final chapter is the summary, including useful experience,reflections and problems to be solved.
