The Study Of Integration Between Migrants And Citizens In Mixed Community

According to the study of floating population, mixed habitation of inhabitants from different social stratum can help to the dilemma of integration. However, the study on mixed communities of Hubei province show that mixed habitation of inhabitants from peasant and citizen show different status of integration. In XINHUA community of NanZhang, Factors such as population difference, daily life and work, less of social capital support and network, the incomplete management and community service lead to discrete and seldom characteristics of interaction between migrants and citizens. In JINGQIAO community of Wuhan, approval new residents from the government, encouraging peasants participate in community service and management, and innovative management; all these measures are helpful to status of integration.Generally speaking, on the one hand, the interaction and integration of migrants and citizens encounter difficulties, such as population difference, the dilemma community management, loss of social capital and so on. Social support, on the other hand, is helpful. Therefore, mixed habitation includes contradictory opposites:peasant upward mobility and citizen containment. As a result, the integration and interaction of two groups present a low level.The low level of integration and interaction between two groups is also helpful to rural workers become citizen. Firstly, individualization and heterogeneity of migrants and citizens, decrease the significance of peasant in communities, and avoid rejection of citizen. Secondly, the low level of interaction and the high level of individualization increase the possibility of encounter between migrants and citizens. Thirdly, migrants living in communities of low level integration are used to resort to residents committee and property companies, which help migrants adapt to property right relationship and modern institutional arrangement. Lastly, the hierarchical and category of interaction eliminate barrier, inhabitants in mixed communities interact each other more conveniently and frequently.Mixed habitation and integration of migrants and citizens face challenge, and this means that we still have space and leeway to improve the pattern of mixed habitation. Say concretely, measures should be taken to raise participation level of migrants in mixed communities and cultivate the common sense both migrants and citizens.
