State-owned Enterprise Migrant Worker Social Support Network Research

Generally,the state and society always suffer population flow and migration during the process of industrialization and urbanization.Since Chinese Reform,with the rapid development of economy and industry,and with the explosive expansion of city area and population,migrant worker become a new type of labor force.It is a special social group in our country institutional change and social transformation.Migrant workers have large demands in medical treatment,employment,housing,children education,labor income,social security and assistance.To construct the migrant workers social support network(short for SSN)will make great sense to meet their needs and to integrate them into the city.This thesis uses literature investigation and questionnaire survey method,focusing on the state-owned enterprise migrant workers in Guangzhou,to analyze the formal and informal SSN resource and characteristics.It was found that formal SSN lacks of dominant and is limited by threshold and cost.This situation leads to low degree of social security and welfare coverage,and limits social support.At the meantime,influenced by narrow work contact and interpersonal network,informal SSN is unable to expand and update.It was also acknowledged that migrant workers' seek-help consciousness is weak and SSN utilization degree is low.All above situations result to the weakness of migrant worker general SSN.According to the problems found in the research,this thesis put forward suggestions like strengthening information publicity,establishing enterprise social worker service,setting up special funds to carry out social worker service,strengthening community harmony construction,strengthening volunteer service construction,building new interpersonal relationship network,establishing social support platform and carrying out professional individual counseling intervention,etc.These suggestions may provide new viewpoint for the communion of social work service and enterprise SSN.
