Since the Independence in 1947,India basically insisted to hold a national election almost every five years,which is helpful to implement and develop the general election system to some extent.This thesis aims to study clearly and explore the impact of general election system on the process of Indian political modernization,in the hope of gaining a better understanding of modern India and predicting its social trends,in which India conditions can be obtained comprehensively and scientifically.This paper makes an attempt to apply modernization and politics theory to the research on relationship between Indian general election system and political modernization,mainly revealing the general election system's positive effects on the development of India party politics,parliamentary democracy and public participation proportion.On the other hand,problems of the election system will restrict political modernization.Besides the foreword and conclusion,this paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter mainly discuss the Indian general election system has significant effects on party politics.The general election has consolidated the ruling status of the Congress Party.But also made the power is within the Congress Party's grasp.This system is sure to end someday with the crisis deepens everyday.Then,India political parties will going to present a multi-parties competitive pattern,and the competitive ways of different parties will gradually become more standardized.Besides that,the political function of each party will also expand and the system will become more and more mature.Chapter two introduces the general election system also boost Indian parliamentary democracy.Alone with the development of general election,more and more people have rights to engaged in the election activities.The nature of the parliament tend to change and include more people,which is helpful for the democratization of composition of parliament,also helpful for the democratization of the assembly operation.Chapter three mainly discusses the positive affects of the India's general election towards the political nationality.Women have more rights under this system,same to the illiterate.The political power of the junior class is becoming more and more powerful,which makes the country's political nationality was expended.In chapter four,it discusses the problems in the general election system restricts the India political modernization.All the facts show that the system does motivate India political modernization process,however,there are a series of problems in the operation,such as election controlled by interest groups,the view of election is above everything,violent incidents and lawmaker criminal records exposed,all of these drag down its modernization pace and affect the scientific development.From all mentioned above,it is concluded that it is a long road for India's political modernization.
