The Study Of The Gerocomium In Shanghai Suburb During The Period Of The People's Commune Movement

"The Great Leap Forward" and the People's Commune Movement are great historical events which happened in the special age in China.Starting from the year 1958,a tidal wave for "the Great Leap Forward" and the People's Commune Movement rose in China's vast rural areas.In order to comply with the trend of the movement and to reflect the superiority of the socialist system,Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau carried out the constructive work of the gerocomium in accordance to the instructions from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China:"To manage the gerocomium well,providing a better living place for those old man who are childless" in the same year.Since then,the gerocomium came into existence.The author takes the gerocomium in Shanghai suburb as the research object,and makes a study about the collective pension practices of the elderly five-guarantees during the People's Commune Movement period from macro and micro perspectives,deeply rethinks the importance of combining great dream with reality,and expects to make contribution to present construction of old-age care.The rise of gerocomium in the suburb of Shanghai during the People's Commune Movement period,as the product of communist ideals practiced by China's communist leaders,gerocomium was not only influenced by social situation,but also a continuation of the Chinese nation's tradition of respecting and loving the elderly.We can see that the gerocomium involved in "the Great Leap Forward" and People's Commune Movement suffer many mishaps from the rise and decline of it.At the beginning,gerocomium sprang up like mushrooms under the influence of various factors.However,as time goes by,as problems arose,some gerocomium silently closed down.After the rectification and adjustament of Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau,gerocomium reopen,But good times don't last long,most gerocomium did not escape the fate of failure.The author describes the specific operational state of the gerocomium through referring to a large number of profiles,including standard setting for admission to gerocomium,selection of service personnel,mobilization of publicity and education,arrangement of supply and financing,recreational activities,care for spiritual life,daily care,office management etc.On the foundation of these,the author finds and discusses several questions by combining the rise and decline of the gerocomium:the reasons for gerocomium break up in a hubbub,the disadvantages in the cadres' work in gerocomium under public ownership system,why the original intention of "respecting the elderly" finally turned into a one-sided wish,what do the central government need to do in the operation of the gerocomium.The gerocomium in the suburb of Shanghai during the People's Commune Movement period had distinctive characteristics of the times,had some activeness but also had deficiencies.On the one hand,the emergence of the gerocomium provided a way to support the elderly five-guarantees,support the elderly five-guarantees collectively and arranging properly their lives and production,the relief played an important and crucial role in China's social security and harmony,accumulated much experience for the construction of our old-age care.On the other hand,there existed a lot of drawbacks in the gerocomium,it not only did not achieve expected effect but also had serious injuries on the elderly five-guarantees.
