Research On The Cultural Barriers To The Construction Of The New Great Power Relations Between China And The US

In 2013,China formally put forward the idea of constructing a new type of great power relations between China and the United States,which includes avoiding conflict,confrontation,treating each other with mutual respect toward win-win results.From the narrow sense of the concept of culture,namely the product in the field of spirit,and the law,ethics,philosophy,art,religion,etc,this paper defines cultural barriers as the plight that different culture forming a certain agreement and the cognitive conflict,lack of trust brought by the cultural differences.This paper analyzes the characteristics and differences of the cultural values of China and the United States: On social relationships,China stresses the harmony and moderation,while the United States pursues for the competition and equality;Traditionally,China has the patriarchal culture and the value of hierarchy,while the US advocates individuality,freedom,democracy;On the view of nature,China holds the concept of " unity of the nature and human ",while the US pay attention to challenge and conquer the nature.On this basis,the author explores the cultural factors that hinder the construction of the new type of great power relations between China and the United States.From the United States perspective,American exceptionalism contradicts with "mutual respect",the idea of competition conflicts with the "win-win cooperation",the conquer psychology is inconsistent with "no conflict,no fighting".For China,the traditional Chinese cultural values has a certain degree of ambiguity and logical sluggishness;From the comparisons,cultural differences between China and the United States led to the different traditional values and modes of thinking,which prevented the two countries reaching a consensus and building the trust.Finally,this paper puts forward three Suggestions to the construction of the new type of great power relations between China and the United States: to attach great importance to the cultural factors,promote the cultural integration,strengthen the mutual dialogue and communication,and enhance cultural exchanges.
