| Currently, the contem porary international system is under going a profound and complex transformation. With China’s rapid rise, the structural contradiction between China and the United S tates, as two system great powers, becom es increasingly prominent. Smooth transformation of the in ternational system needs the support of mature and rational relations between gr eat powers, sound progr ess of Sino-U.S. relations depends on a peaceful an d stable system environment. Abandoning the Cold War mentality, breaking up the logic of pow ers are bound to bully, getting rid of the so-called Thucydides trap, so as to constr uct a new type of gr eat power relationship based on the principle of m utual respect and win-win cooperation, is an issue of epoch. It’s not only a rationa l and realistic choice conforms to the comm on interests of both sides, but also the responsibility of world powers to establish a m ore just and equitable international system and world order.In this dissertation, theories and m ethodology of international system are used to discuss the transform ation of international system and the patterns of great power interaction on the histo ry, to analyze the transformation of conte mporary system and epochal choice for China and the United S tates, to expound the realistic conditions, basic principles and implementing approaches of Sino-U.S. new t ype of great power relations’ construction.The first chapter builds a theoretical analysis framework between the international systemic transition and great powers’ interaction, by using theories and methodology of international system. This chapte r defines the concepts of international system and systemic power firstly, summarizes the dyn amic elements and m ain effects of international system transformation, concludes the roles of great powers in the practice of international and the mode ls between great powers. Esta blishing the theoretical and historical basis of the construction of Sino-U.S. new type of great power relations under the background of contem porary international system transformation, through the analysis of great pow ers’ interaction during th e transition with in the Westphalian system, the Vienna system, the Versailles-Washington system and the Yalta system.The second chapter analyzes the logical re lationship of contemporary international system transformation and Sino-U.S. relations’ change. Contem porary international system transformation mainly exhibits three basic trends: the diffusion of world power, the strengthen of systemic effects and the highlights of system ic chaos. In this context, the profound transform ation of the contem porary international system has caused tremendous challenges and provided an unpre cedented historical opportunity for the future development of Sino-U.S. relations. In terms of challenges, the restructuring of systemic power has led to com petition between China and the Unite d States, the transformation of systemic norms affects the competition and cooperation between them, the transformation of s ystemic culture high lights the lack of strategic mutual trust between these two great pow ers. In term s of opportun ities, the adjustm ent of international pattern provides a new external conditions for them, the reconstruction of international order requires Ch ina and the United S tates re-adjust the developmental strategy of both sides, the governance of international system requires these two powers undertake the international re sponsibility jointly, to pr ovide new sources of great powers’ legitimacy.The third chapter m ainly discusses the realistic foundation of the Sino-U.S. new type of great power relations from the persp ective of interest, institution and consensus. On the basis of interests, China an d the United States has form ed an unpreceden ted inter-dependence pattern of interests since th e normalization of Sino-U.S. relations, the common interests of both sides show a gradua l expansion trend, the new type relations have interests motivation to a certain extant. On the institutional conditions, China and the United States has always attached im portance to deepen cooperation in all areas by international regimes, with the deepening of interaction and the diversity of interaction levels, these two countries has a institutional basis to build a new type of great pow er relations. On str ategic consensus, enter ing the new century, to regulate Sino-U.S. Relation has become the common choice of both sides, the heads of two states gradually gather up the common strategi c consensus to operate the construction of a ne w type relations, there is a strong ideal motivation between them.The fourth chapter focuses on the principles and patterns of Sino-U.S. new type of great power relations. As an open international relations co nceive, the construction of new great power relations need China and the United States to care for the core interests of each other, to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity of both sides, to respect each other in choosing developm ent paths independently, and recognize the m utual great power status. China and the United S tates should adhere to the principle of peaceful coexistence without conflict and confrontation; deepen the cooperation and win-win pattern of interests, lay a solid foundation for m utual peaceful development; construct a new type m ilitary relationship to prevent strategic misjudgment on security issues; adhere to the p rinciple of mutual symbiosis in the international system, make positive contribution to create a stable international order by maintaining the dynamic balance of Sino-U.S. relations.The fifth chapter proposes practical paths to construct the new type of gr eat power relations. Firstly, the global dif fusion of world power and the strengthen of system ic effects require China and the United States to break up the logic of powers are bound to bully, to get rid of the so-called Thucydide s trap. Secondly, institutional cooperation builds platforms for dialogue and cooperation dur ing the course of the construction of Sino-U.S. new type of great power relations in the new era, so that China and the United States can perform coordinati on of great powers. Thirdly, to surmount the Cold W ar mentality by thinking innovation, so as to form a broad strategic consen sus on the idea of win-win cooperation and global governance. Fourthly, to achieve co-evolution in the international system through promoting the coordinated development. In an era that the relations between gr eat powers have increasingly cl ose contact with the system environment, the construction of Sino-U.S. new type of great pow er relations is the significant foundation f or promoting the intern ational system become more just and equitable, is the common responsibility of China and the United S tates. It will not only contribute to the world peace, stability and de velopment, but also will b enefit the two nations. |
