The aim of the thesis is to apply the theory of interdependence on the involvement of China using Zambia as a case study on the controversial issue concerning whether or not China's Economic Diplomacy is fair. This thesis will describe the theory of interdependence and the mechanisms of economic, political and cultural cooperation. As a result, the Chinese engagement in Zambia is analysed from historical and contemporary perspectives. The aim of this thesis is to find out whether China acts as a neo-colonial power in Zambia and whether or not statistical/empirical facts on the ground reflect this as a reality. My findings disagree with the misconception and I use empirical statistics coupled with theories in this field of study to prove that indeed China is more inclined to the theory of interdependence and mutual development.
