Generally we are inclined to think that sport,in the modern society,is something marginal,used for leisure and entertainment.However,sport can in some cases become a tool of diplomacy.This research will take the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games as a case study to examine whether or not this particular international sport event influenced the Chinese Soft Power and,if after that,China will be considered a stronger country with even more appeal.The purpose of this thesis is also to analyze some other example of sport diplomacy happened in the history and,in particular,to take them as an example to see how sport and politics are usually mutual related.Another analysis will be done on the economical and cultural base.We aim to understand if Chinese economy was affected by the Beijing 2008 Olympics,and,moreover,if China can really affect the international environment by using the culture.We will also analyze the image that China will have in the international environment according to other's country perception.Also the bilateral relations between Italy and China after the Olympics will be taken into consideration,in order to better understand the power of the sport related to the international politics.The research will be able to discover some interesting details about the two countries and how they used Soft Power in order to find a better position in the world.
