Strategies Of Local Governments To Deal With NIMBY Issues In Urban Governance

With the rapid development of economy and the continuous advancement of urbanization,the problem of not-in-my-backyard has been more and more outstanding,and the frequent occurrence of such conflict put a great challenge to governance ability.In the study of the NIMBY problem,one of the focuses of scholars is to find out a solution.Many studies is studied from the theory or from the case,demonstrated the government's response to the NIMBY problem.The main way to solve can be divided into three respects.: "economic compensation,institutional mitigation,technical mitigation".However,part of the local government response to the NIMBY problem is often not work.Why the same coping approach in different places have different effects? The author found that the effect of this solution is often tied with the type of NIMBY facilities.The author suggests that for the different types of NIMBY facilities,The government needs to take different response strategy.In the study,by sorting out the cause of the problem,the author first classifies the NIMBY facilities into three kinds.And then by comparatively analyzing the specific six cases,the author found that in the case of contaminated NIMBY facilities,people strongly resist to such facilities is always due to the consideration of health and surrounding environment.In the case of solving the risk-gathering type of NIMBY facilities,it can be found that the resistance of people to such facilities is often due to excessive fear such facilities.In dealing with such as the funeral parlor,which may bring psychological discomfort to people,it should be noticed that the public cares the personal emotional more.In response to it,government can actively promote,carry out the public work and so on to achieve their goals.On the basis of this analysis,the author thought that in dealing with NIMBY problems,the local government can only solve the increasingly NIMBY problems by finding out the real reason that why people resist and then targeted response from the people's demands,rather than intensify the contradiction.
