The Evolution Of Kissinger's Diplomatic Thoughts On China Since Nineteen Sixties

The Sino-American relationship is still a hot topic among international relationships in the twenty-first century.As for the Sino-American relationship,Henry Kissinger,former Secretary of State of America and a China expert,is a key person.His diplomatic thoughts on China were the basis of his foreign policy towards China in his tenure.Therefore,a study of his diplomatic thoughts on China is of particular significance.Scholars both in China and America have mainly explored his foreign policies towards China during the Cold War era and their influences;however,few have made an overall and historical analysis on his diplomatic thoughts on China,which is the innovation point of this thesis.Taking the evolution of Henry Kissinger?s diplomatic thoughts on China from the late 1960 s to the early twenty-first century as the research subject,the thesis discusses the characteristics,similarities and differences of his diplomatic thoughts on China in the Cold War era and the post Cold War era and analyzes the reasons for these changes;thereby revealing the essence of Kissinger?s diplomatic thoughts on China.That is to say,on the basis of his insightful understanding of traditional Chinese values,objective view of China?s needs and international situations,he helped to realize the changes from confrontation to cooperation between China and America,and finally,the coexistence of cooperation and competition between the two countries.National interests are always the core of his diplomatic thoughts on China.The thesis consists of seven parts.The first part is introduction,including the purpose,significance and research background of the thesis.The second part introduces the theoretical basis of this research,i.e.,Realism.The third part makes an introduction to Henry Kissinger and his diplomatic thoughts.And the fourth part elaborates the evolution of his diplomatic thoughts on China during and after the Cold War.And then in the fifth part,the thesis analyzes the reasons leading to the changes,involving the changed national interests of the United States,a different international situation and a new perspective of traditional Chinese values.Besides,the sixth part discusses the influences of Henry Kissinger?s diplomatic thoughts on American foreign policy towards China.The last part summarizes the main argument of the whole thesis.
