The Construction Of Contemporary Police Spiritual Culture In The Perspective Of Confucianism

Being an indispensable part of the soft power of police agencies,police spiritual culture promotes the scientific development of police work.Categorized as the inner layer of culture,it exerts significant influence upon police officers' values and behaviors.Traditional Chinese culture,Confucianism in particular,can be drawn heavily in the construction of police spiritual culture,for the core values of people's police,namely “Loyalty,Commitment,Impartiality,and Integrity” represent an integration of Confucianism with police spiritual culture,with the former shedding some light on the latter.Employing Confucianism as the theoretical framework,the thesis aims to integrate Confucianism with police spiritual culture,intending to contribute to the all-round development of police spiritual culture on the strength of insights gained from Confucianism.Police spiritual culture is the sum of the common consciousness and values formed by the police group in the long-term police practice,which has the function of shaping,stimulating and cohesizing.Confucianism attaches importance to personality cultivation,advocating social harmony and governance.Loyalty,Commitment,Impartiality,and Integrity thought have the reference significance to the construction of the public security spiritual culture.From the point of view of the two thought,“Loyalty” in police core values corresponds to “Faithfulness,Patriotism and Devotion” in Confucianism;“Commitment” is compatible with people-oriented approach such as “Philanthropy and Inculcation”;“Impartiality” is similar to the principle of fairness ensured by “Consummate Mechanisms and Precept”;and “Integrity” finds full expression in such ethical principles as “Entitlement and Sense of Honor.”However,In response to the problems emerged in the construction of police spiritual culture such as similar practices,lack of effectiveness,and gaps between different areas or different departments,the thesis makes an in-depth analysis of conceptualization,modes of design,short-term effects and economic leverages.In view of these problems,the construction of police spiritual culture can be resolved from a variety of ways.Material and emotional support,coordinated regional development,influencer program and media publicity all contribute to the development and prosperity of police spiritual culture,which in return helps educate,motivate and strengthen the police.
