Identity theory is an important theory in studying international politics.National actors form their own national identity in the international system structure, which determines the national interests orientation. The national interest clearly determines what diplomatic behavior the state will take.Australia's identity changed after the Second World War,its influencing factors can be summarized as the contradiction between its geographical location and historical culture, the contradiction between the security of Australian and American and the Austral-Asia relations, and other political parties and popular factors. The security threats during World War II led the post-war Australia to seek alliances with the United States.Founded by the Australian and American allies in the 1950s,Australia has been playing the role of American loyalists for nearly two decades, the diplomatic act of this national identity is embodied in two aspects:on the one hand, actively responding to and participating in the wars initiated by the United States, such as Korea war,Vietnam war and Iraq war;On the other hand, support and service for regional and global strategies in the United States. The transformation of the world structure in the 1970s prompted the new Prime Minister Whitlam to improve Australia's relation with Asia, which marked the beginning of Australia's integration into Asia.Since then, the Australian government has sought the identity in Asia in varying degrees, and the diplomatic act of this national identity reflects the different diplomatic policies of different leaders to close ties between Australia and Asia. After the Second World War,Australia's middle-class power complex was also integrated into the process of its integration into Asia, and became the basic direction of foreign policy in the Kevin Rudd period,The diplomatic act of this national identity reflects the emphasis on the relationship with Asia, and the use of multilateral mechanism to exert its diplomatic independence.Through a series of analysis,it can be roughly determined that the future Australian identity selection will be a middle-class power under the framework of the alliance.Under this national identity,Australian foreign conduct will include two aspects:Australia-US alliance is the first, not the only;basing on Asian-Pacific region and expand to Indo-Pacific region.
